Palmyra Public Safety Department encourages kind, compassionate, problem solvers to join our award winning team of emergency responders.
We are presently to fill several new Part Time positions and create an eligibility list for an anticipated Full Time opening later this year.
Palmyra Public Safety Department is a combined protective services department organized under 62.13. Emergency response in the community is conducted by full time personnel who are Police Officers, Firefighters, and EMS responders who supplement part time and paid on call EMT's and Firefighters. Our public safety response program has been featured in local and national media.
This current recruitment is seeking responders who presently some combination of certification as law enforcement officers, firefighters, and/or emergency medical technicians. The department will sponsor employees to training to complete the requirements.
Public Safety Officers will be expected to work approximately 48 hours bi weekly. Full time officers presently work 48 hrs on/96 hours off. Of the 48 hours worked, 16 hours are assigned to police, 16 hours fire rescue, and 16 hours on call sleep time. Part time officers are being sought to provide staffing when full time officers are on time off.
Part time Pay rate is $22.00/hr for duty time. Sleep time is paid at $7.25/hr. A 24 hr shift (8 hr Police, 8 hr Fire/EMS, 8 hr on call) provides compensation of $410. Full Time staff pay rate ($23.57-$26.80) are covered under a collective bargaining agreement and have additional benefits including Health Insurance 100% paid by employer (If meeting annual wellness incentives)
